EPSY 647 - Psychopharmacology Units: 3 Theory and research from the psychiatric and psycho-pharmacological disciplines used to increase counselors’ knowledge of the medical treatments for adult and child psychological and developmental disorders. The interface between psychotherapy and these medications.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - To differentiate between the major classifications of psychotropic medications.
- To explain common prescribed psychotropic medications and the rationale for treatment selection.
- To describe the basic principles of drug action and metabolism.
- To assess the importance and indications for referrals for medication evaluation.
- To develop working collaborative relationships with other health care providers within a biopsychosocial framework in order to provide better client/patient care.
- To recognize fundamental concepts of neurobiology.
- To discuss the mind-body connection.
- To prepare to educate clients/patients and their families regarding prescribed psychotropic medications.
- To evaluate controversial topics in the current psychopharmacological treatment of mental health patients.
