BIOL 102 - Introduction to Biology Lab


Units: 1 ; Breadth Area: GE-B3
Laboratory exposure to biological phenomena including microscope activities of cells, osmosis, diffusion, human nutrition, human genetics, plant growth, classification of plants and animals, fertilization and development, natural selection simulation, field ecology and ecosystems. 

Co-requisites: BIOL 101.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate understanding of the basic concepts in biology covered in lab;
  2. Examine and use data and visual displays of information (e.g., graphs, tables, textbook figures, concept maps/flow charts) to explain biological concepts;
  3. Construct scientific questions; Analyze and interpret data and communicate ideas orally and in writing.

  1. Apply their knowledge of scientific theories, concepts, and data about the physical and sciences through laboratory activities;
  2. apply their understanding of scientific practices, including the scientific method in a laboratory setting; and
