MUS 119 - Keyboard Musicianship II Units: 1 Group instruction in piano for music majors. Emphasis on reading from staff notation, technique, keyboard harmony, improvisation, and repertoire.
Prerequisites: MUS 118, MUS 111, MUS 115. Co-requisites: MUS 112 and MUS 116. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Perform major and minor pentascales in all keys
- Perform all major scales and arpeggios, 2 octaves.
- Perform a basic chord progression in multiple major keys.
- Perform major triads and inversions.
- Provide basic harmonization to simple melodies.
- Transpose simple melodies with accompaniment.
- Improve reading and sight-reading abilities at the keyboard.
- Prepare repertoire for public performance in front of peers and instructor
- Improvise appropriately leveled patterns within clearly defined parameters
