NURS 453 - Preceptorship Practicum


Units: 4
This capstone practicum is a precepted experience in a clinical setting.  Emphasis is placed on guided independence in professional nursing practice with integration, synthesis and application of research and leadership.  

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 420, NURS 421, NURS 422, NURS 423, NURS 427.
Co-requisites: NURS 452. 
Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.

Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 8 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: CR/NC grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate accountability in practice.
  2. Demonstrate safe clinical practice consistent with agency guidelines and professional standards of care.

  4. Utilize time management principles to coordinate and manage care of a multiple client assignment.
  5. Use critical thinking skills/Nursing process in clinical decision making.
  6. Apply principles of teaching/learning to meet the needs of clients and or family.
  7. Act as an advocate for clients and families.
  8. Use leadership and management strategies to deliver quality care.
  9. Interact collaboratively with healthcare team members to provide ongoing care of clients.
  10. Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing technology and information management tools in the delivery of safe patient management.
