BIOL 368 - Fungi of California Units: 3 A survey of the Fungi of California, exploring the biology and systematics of macroscopic fungi belonging to phyla Basidiomycota and Ascomycota. Particular attention will be given to the ecology, physiology, taxonomy, diversity and evolution of these organisms. Lecture Units: 2; Lab Units: 1.
Prerequisites: BIOL 140B. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Describe and understand the diversity and systematics of macroscopic fungi found in California;
- Explain the physiology, ecology and evolution of fungi;
- Locate and analyze the structure and function of both microscopic and macroscopic characteristics utilized in the identification of macroscopic fungi;
- Identity the various fungal lineages found in California, including species of significant economic, medical (toxic) or clinical importance;
- Collect, identify and document fungal diversity from diverse habitats throughout California and the Western United States.
