PSYC 471 - Decision Theory and Analysis


Units: 4
Introduction to the literature and methods of decision science in psychology.  Theory and decision strategies are surveyed, with examples across many applications.  Focus on descriptive models. Students will study decision strategies and methods of modeling preference structures.

Prerequisites: PSYC 200 and STAT 310.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe some of the basic theoretical models in decision making.
  2. Apply the principles of decision analysis to professional and personal decisions.
  3. Define decision structures.
  4. Reduce the uncertainty of the decision when possible. Explain the decision strategies they use.
  5. When a decision fails to produce a desirable result, identify the reason the wrong choice was made.
