MUS 631 - Teaching Music in Higher Education Units: 3 Preparation for careers in post-secondary education. Study of learning theories, curriculum development, assessment, and materials for teaching music in higher education.
Prerequisites: M.A. Music major. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Become familiar with a variety of teaching techniques/situations, such as lectures, small groups, individual lessons, and small/large ensemble rehearsals.
- Create curricular materials such as lesson/rehearsal plans and syllabi.
- Participate in peer teaching situations.
- Survey current resources/practices in higher education, i.e. textbooks, online/hybrid options, etc.
- Create a CV and participate in a mock job interview for a college/university position.
