SW 612 - Generalist Practice II

This is the second foundation course in generalist practice. The course orients students to the major areas of small group, community, and organizational practice with particular emphasis on work with disenfranchised and oppressed populations.

Prerequisites: M.S.W. major.
Credit Restrictions: Master of Social Work students only.

Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid Only.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the values and ethics that guide culturally competent social work practice within the mezzo and macro environment (PLO: Values and Ethics).
Integrate selected theories of human bio-psycho-socio-spiritual development within organizations and communities and demonstrate understanding of the historical application of these theories in foundation generalist social work practice (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
Transfer this basic knowledge into practice approaches including observations, assessments and best practice interventions as they relate individuals, families and groups within organizations and communities (PLO: Critical Thinking/Applying Theory to Practice).
Gain insight about their own values, behavior, development, and world view and be able to incorporate this insight into effective and ethical social work applications within diverse communities and organizations (PLOs: Professional Use of Self, Values and Ethics, Diversity).
