MM 630 - Coding for Multimedia


Units: 3
Using a common art and design friendly language like Processing or JavaScript, students will learn both basic scripting and how to use and adapt pre-existing code and libraries to develop and network software prototypes and mash-ups.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Use computational thinking to clearly describe art and design tasks in terms of algorithms.
  2. Effectively use a variety of integrated development environments to create functioning code.
  3. Demonstrate competence with basic coding concepts like variables, conditionals, loops, arrays, and classes.
  4. Research, locate, implement, and customize software libraries written by others.
  5. Create interactive artworks and games purely from code. Create networked interfaces for media, objects, and installations.
  6. Document the use, development, and internal logic of software for other users and developers.
  7. Demonstrate familiarity with basic concepts of the field of software studies.
