REC 620 - Organizational Development in Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism

Fundamental concepts of organizational theory and human relations from a managerial perspective. Topics include structures and systems in service delivery, organizational effectiveness and change, and leadership styles.

Prerequisites: Department consent.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Develop knowledge about classic systems theory.
Comprehend why systems are important in recreation and leisure services delivery.
Compare various systems approaches including: Hard (operations and systems approaches), Soft (org. development), and Integrative (system dynamics).
Explore transformational and transactional leadership styles as it relates to learning organizations.
Analyze the learner’s existing departmental system.
Develop a plan of action for implementation of a systems thinking approach.
Create a model of systems thinking for the learner’s place of business.
