ENGL 600 - Introduction to Graduate Studies Units: 4 Introduction to the major research tools for the study of English; survey and evaluation of various methods in literary criticism. Required for M.A. in English.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to analyze and interpret literary and critical texts in clear and cogent prose.
- Discuss 2-3 theoretical perspectives about literature and apply these to the literature we read.
- Prepare a 5-page prospectus for a research seminar paper that demonstrates facility with conducting research in traditional and nontraditional ways, including writing an Annotated Bibliography of at least 7 critical secondary sources.
- Demonstrate the ability to locate 2 upcoming literary conferences appropriate for presenting the research topic they developed in the prospectus.
- Work collaboratively in class presentations and independently on research paper of 12-15 pages.
