KIN 302 - Social Justice in Kinesiology Units: 4 Ways that we can promote more humane, socially just, and democratic forms of physical activity so that all people have opportunities to gain the benefits of physical activity.
Prerequisites: B.S. Kinesiology major, BIOL 270, BIOL 271, KIN 300. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- The students will become familiar with key theoretical concepts of literature on social inclusion and exclusion.
- The students will apply those theoretical concepts to investigating physical activity in relation to common barriers to participation and retention in physical activity.
- The students will be able to identify and describe strategies that support more socially inclusive and democratic physical activity environments.
- The students will be able to use basic social science research skills to identify, describe, and assess patterns of physical activity participation.
- The students will develop and present research.
- The students will be able to identify and describe best practices within physical activity, with an emphasis on social inclusiveness.
