ENGL 651 - Theory and Practice of Teaching Oral Skills to Adults Units: 4 Focuses on current research as well as practical, innovative methods for teaching listening and speaking to adult English learners.
Prerequisites: Post-baccalaureate standing. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Analyze historical trends in language teaching, summarize various methods for teaching oral skills, assess their strengths and weaknesses, and explore the connection between theory and practice.
- Write formal lessons plans using a format that includes a statement of learning outcomes as well as descriptions of materials and equipment needed, the sequence and procedures for activities, and methods of assessment.
- Develop and execute teaching demonstration individually and collaboratively.
- Tutor a language learner.
- Summarize learning styles and strategies.
- Critically observe ESL classes and write up the classroom observations in a professional manner.
