SOC 475 - Sociology of Sport Units: 4 Sociological analysis of relationships between sport and other local and global institutions. Examines reciprocal linkages between sports and culture, politics, systems of inequality, and social mobility.
Prerequisites: SOC 100. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
- SLO 2: Through written work and oral presentations, students will learn to effectively communicate and engage appropriately in debates on socially and culturally diverse beliefs, perspectives, and norms.
- SLO 3: Students will be able to understand social diversity and develop the ability to read and understand academic studies on and critically analyze cultural representations of populations subordinated by race/ethnicity, social class, gender and sexuality.
- SLO 6: Students will develop an understanding of theories that are relevant to the discipline and demonstrate an ability to read, interpret, integrate and synthesize abstract sociological arguments and theories.
