ART 241 - 4D Project Development and Preproduction Units: 3 Project development and pre-production processes for video, animation, and other time based media such as digital games. Topics covered include proposals (treatments, budgets, marketing/distribution, locations, and personnel), scriptwriting, storyboarding, copyright and legal issues.
Prerequisites: All of: ART 100, ART 101, ART 102, ART 103. Co-requisites: ART 104. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Understand and compose a project proposal including a treatment, budget, marketing/distribution plan, location specifications, and personnel requirements;
- Understand and analyze the elements of a story;
- Understand and analyze the elements of film/video aesthetics including: various camera movements, rack focus, aspect ratios, shot composition, audio(dialog, music and sound effects), lighting, and editing;
- Compose a script utilizing elements of storytelling and film/video aesthetics in a standard format;
- reate a storyboard from a script utilizing elements of storytelling and film/video aesthetics in a standard format;
- Use a digital editing application to create an animatic;
- Evaluate and critique production development and pre-production documents;
- Critically analyze their own work, as well as examples from the larger media culture;
- Refine their own work based on critical feedback and self-evaluation;
- Understand the role of production development and pre-production processes within both historical and contemporary art practices;
- Collaborate with peers on production development and pre-production processes.
