NURS 313 - Health Assessment Lab


Units: 1
This laboratory course is designed to introduce students to health and physical assessment skills needed to provide safe and effective nursing care in all healthcare settings across the life span.  

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major.
Co-requisites: NURS 312.
Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.

Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 2 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: CR/NC grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate history-taking and interviewing skills necessary for comprehensive data collection.
  2. Demonstrate beginning level skill in the techniques of physical exam.
  3. Differentiate between normal and abnormal assessment findings.
  4. Apply relevant anatomy and physiology to the health assessment process.
  5. Integrate health assessment into the nursing process and nursing practice.
  6. Develop clinical judgment to health assessment and selection of nursing interventions.
