NURS 452 - Preceptorship Synthesis


Units: 1
This discussion course is designed to assist the student in critical thinking, decision making, team building, and correlating theory and practice with an emphasis on assuming the role of the professional nurse.

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 420, NURS 421, NURS 422, NURS 423, NURS 427.
Co-requisites: NURS 453.
Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.

Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 2 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Display critical thinking skills in the verbal and written discussion of the professional nursing role and through the design, delivery, evaluation and improvement of client care outcomes.
  2. Initiate, participate and collaborate in professional communication with patients, families and interdisciplinary heath care team members.
  3. Identify professional role and leadership strategies within the context of the interdisciplinary team.
  4. Integrate evidence based research findings when approaching professional and patient care challenges.
  5. Participate in improvement of quality patient care through the identification and resolution of issues in the healthcare delivery system.
  6. Integrate ethical decision making and advocacy through the scholarly description of an ethical issue encountered during the preceptorship practicum.
  7. Identify strategies and implement a study plan designed to optimize successful completion of the NCLEX.
  8. Reflect on the impact diversity, culture, and/or uniqueness may have on the individual client or the overall healthcare environment.
