SOC 390 - Sociological Research Methods


Units: 4
Review of sociological research methods with an emphasis on learning: appropriate selection and use of different methods; the limitations and strengths of each method; and, practicing qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: SOC 305.
Prerequisites: STAT 100 and SOC 300.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Understand the difference between qualitative and quantitative methods. 
  2. Recognize and select an appropriate method to collect, interpret and analyze data. 
  3. Recognize and critically assess “knowledge claims.” 
  4. Read, integrate, and synthesize abstract sociological analyzes and theories presented in peer reviewed journals and books.
