SOC 405 - Sociology of Organizations Units: 4 Bureaucratic organizations and agencies in the modern world in both the public and the private sector. Examples of both successful and failed public agencies will be analyzed in terms of relationship between policy goals and organizational structure.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Understand how and why administrative failures often adversely affect disadvantaged populations to a greater extent than other groups, for example FEMA’s response to Hurricane Katrina.. - Read and comprehend sociological theories of bureaucracy, public administration and why administrative agencies sometimes fail catastrophically. (SLO6: Maps to SLO6)
