Overview of the major psychiatric disorders affecting children and adolescents. Emphasis is on diagnostic criteria; biological, psychological, and sociocultural factors; and treatment implications.

Prerequisites: PSYC 200.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Demonstrate familiarity with the major concepts, theoretical perspectives, and empirical findings in the area of abnormal child psychology
Identify the diagnostic features of the major DSM-5 psychiatric disorders that affect children.
Critically evaluate biological, psychological, and socio-cultural perspectives on abnormal child behavior.
Show awareness of and sensitivity to the impact of abnormal child behavior on the individual and society.
