ART 104 - 4D Processes


Units: 3
Introduction to time based art and design using traditional and digital media. Students design, analyze, and produce time based artworks and experiences, through presentations, studio projects, problem solving, and written assignments.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Identify and understand the formal elements and organizing principles of time based art and design including the moving image, serial, sequential, and narrative ordering, still and moving image editing, sound and image relations, and object and event analysis;
  2. Create original artworks that utilize the passage of time as elements of the work both conceptually and formally;
  3. Observe and record social and physical actions both objectively and subjectively;
  4. Critically analyze their own work, as well as examples from the larger media culture;
  5. Understand the role of time as a medium within both historical and contemporary art practices;
  6. Analyze how time-based media are experienced, shared, and interpreted within different contexts;
  7. Collaborate with peers in the development and execution of a video or performance project;
  8. Utilize motion graphics, video, sound, and text in relation to performance, action and environment.
