NURS 420 - Nursing Care of Adults II


Units: 2
Nursing care of adult patients, and their families, who are experiencing complex acute and chronic illness requiring medical and surgical interventions.

Prerequisites: B.S. Nursing major and all of: NURS 410, NURS 411, NURS 412, NURS 413, NURS 417.
Co-requisites: NURS 421.
Credit Restrictions: Repeated course may not count toward Major requirements.

Repeatability: May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 4 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Integrate and analyze knowledge from the natural and behavioral sciences, humanities and nursing as they apply to adults and families with complex acute and chronic illness.
  2. Describe the nursing management of common medical conditions and potential complications. 
  3. Describe common surgical approaches and the nursing management of the surgical patient. 
  4.   Discuss the psychosocial implications of the disease/condition/surgery and its complications. 
  5.   Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to the development of nursing care for patients and families with complex acute and chronic illness. 
  6.   Describe nursing interventions to restore, maintain and promote health of adults with complex acute and chronic illness
