CRJ 420 - White Collar Crime


Units: 3
Explores criminal activity in business and corporate enterprise, organization, and the professions. Students will learn criminological theories regarding the causes and control of white collar crime.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Define and explain the various forms of white collar crime, including consumer crime, environmental crime, securities fraud, health care fraud, and computer crime;
  2. Identify and analyze the social, institutional and ideological factors relevant to corporate wrongdoing and white collar crime and the criminal justice system’s response to such crime;
  3. Identify the legal regimes that are used to combat white collar crime, and analyze the efficacy of such regimes;
  4. Review and analyze real world examples of white collar crime and criminal prosecutions of white collar criminals.
