CRJ 210 - Elementary Criminal Law


Units: 3
Introduces students to the nature and function of criminal law in the United States and the principles and rules underlying its application. Covers the classification of criminal activity and the applicability of criminal defenses.

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Utilize the principles of criminal law and complicity to define the criminal liability for specific acts and omissions;
  2. Differentiate between distinct levels of criminal liability;
  3. Apply the principles of criminal defenses justifications and excuses) to the facts of specific cases;
  4. List and define the elements of crimes against persons, crimes against property, and crimes against public order;
  5. Analyze the facts of specific scenarios and communicate verbally and in written the principles of criminal liability that are applicable to each such scenario.
