BIOL 312 - Women in Science


Units: 3
Readings, discussion, and research on historical and contemporary contributions, achievements, and challenges of women in science and approaches toward reducing the gender gap in science.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Completion of GE areas A1, A2, A3, and B4.
Prerequisites: Upper division standing and College of Science major.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Discuss important contributions of women scientists throughout history.
  2. Evaluate published research articles from select women scientists and relate to STEM courses.
  3. Discuss the origins and consequences of the gender gap in science.
  4. Analyze critiques of science from various perspectives, including feminism.
  5. Synthesize, integrate, and effectively communicate scientific evidence addressing issues of women in/and science both in writing and verbally.
