HIST 320 - Transnational Revolution in the Modern World

Global history of modern revolution. Emphasis on France, Russia, China. Evolving ideals of social justice and equality; cross-border movement of revolutionary people and technologies; transnational impact of revolutionary wars/civil wars; espionage and diplomacy in new regimes.

Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

Know basic analytic concepts for interpreting historical evidence relating to transnational revolution and achieve digital literacy in accessing and presenting information about major revolutionary figures, ideas and events.
Demonstrate significant knowledge of major events and trends in the global history of social revolution.
Write and speak clearly and persuasively about events and trends in the transnational history of revolution, and work collaboratively with others in solving problems relating to cross-cultural transmission of revolutionary ideologies and technologies.
Provide original interpretation of assigned sources, and accurately reference all sources in coursework.
Comprehend how differences and similarities among diverse peoples and cultures over time shaped the history of social revolution in the modern world.
FOR D4: Understand how case studies and inductive reasoning can be used to generate and test theories of historical causation, and use case studies to compare social outcomes of revolution across cultural and economic groups.
