POSC 323 - Political Systems of Asia Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-D An analysis of politics in selected Asian countries. The degree of emphasis on particular countries and areas such as China, India, Japan and Southeast Asia varies.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area D1-3 requirements. Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better. Equivalent Quarter Course: POSC 3204. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Develop and articulate an understanding of theories and other analytical approaches in comparative politics developed in the American and Asian settings
- Understand the empirical aspect of comparative politics in Northeast and Southeast Asia, specifically the institutions and process of government in the region
- Understand the relationship between ethnic, racial, religious and socio-economic diversity and political cultures in Northeast and Southeast Asia
- Be able to apply theories and analytical approaches, both individually and collaboratively, to studying the institutions, governments, political culture and public policies in Northeast and Southeast Asia
- Be able to apply theories and analytical approaches, both individually and collaboratively, to compare different governments in Northeast and Southeast Asia
- Understand public policy in Northeast and Southeast Asia, including its relationships to the concept of sustainability
- Demonstrate oral and written competency of the theories and analytical approaches used in the course
- Work as a team in analyzing their assigned countries
