TED 529 - Professional Responsibilities in Education


Units: 3
Professional issues, rights and responsibilities of teachers and students. Self-assessment and self-direction for continuing professional growth.

Prerequisites: Admission to Single Subject Credential Program.
Equivalent Quarter Course: TED 5318.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. The candidate identifies major laws, concepts and principles related to student health and safety and applies concepts and strategies that foster student health and contribute to a healthy environment for learning.
  2. The candidates identify and synthesize the range of social, health, education and language-related service agencies and other resources that are available at school and off-campus, particularly ones that promote student health and school safety.
  3. The candidate will be able to recognize and pose ways to minimize bias in the classroom, to create an equitable classroom community that contributes to the physical, social, emotional and intellectual safety of all students.
  4. Describe the legal rights and responsibilities of teachers, students and parents and relate that knowledge to practical issues.
  5. Describe the “code of ethics for the teaching profession” and discuss ethical problems faced by teachers. Describe the “code of ethics for the teaching profession” and discuss ethical problems faced by teachers.
  6. The candidates will apply current California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) to experiences in their teaching placement.
