ES 380 - Queer of Color Histories, Cultures, and Identities


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-C; Social Justice
Study of queer of color communities in the US, historically and in the present. Course examines the ways that queer of color communities have resisted the confines of “the normal” by creating resistant cultures, liberatory spaces, and political solidarities. 

Strongly Recommended Preparation: Upper division status (greater than 60 earned semester units) and completion of lower division Area C requirements.
Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3 and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ES 4300.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Define key terms in queer of color theory;
  2. Discuss the ways that race, gender, and sexuality are social constructions; and
  3. Apply key terms in queer of color theory in the analysis of queer of color art, literature, film, video, and other cultural practices.
