COMM 314 - Journalism Theory and Practice Units: 4 Analysis of journalism and other media through a lens of cultural studies. Students examine media content and norms that guide news production, including organizational and other ideological influences on content. Students examine and begin to practice journalism as social justice.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Explain the norms, organizational and ideological factors that influence news production;
- Relate journalism’s societal role to issues of social justice;
- Apply the principles of responsible, issue-based journalism to a particular issue or event;
- Demonstrate critical understanding and application of media creation and analysis.
