HOS 200 - Lodging Management


Units: 3
Examination of the physical aspects of hotel and other lodging operations, including development, classification, organization, management concepts, career opportunities, technology, and social media in hotel and lodging administration. 

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Equivalent Quarter Course: HOS 4510.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Identify the differences of various types and of hotels, brands, and management operations.
  2. Demonstrate how hotels utilize Revenue Management and Yield Management, and Social Media Marketing to increase occupancy and average daily rate.
  3. Describe the duties of the Executive Committee and Department Heads within a hotel showing the inter-relationships among various hotel departments.
  4. Analyze current trends in the Lodging Industry including Greening, Sustainability, Technology, Revenue Management, Culture and Internal Customers.
