HOS 450 - Data-Driven Decision Making in Hospitality, Recreation, Recreation Therapy, and Tourism


Units: 3
Using data to make informed management decisions. Conduct a literature review, collect and analyze data, and create written and oral reports using both quantitative and qualitative data. Explore current software, such as Microsoft Excel, Survey Monkey, and Google Forms.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Equivalent Quarter Course: REC 3701.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Conduct a literature review.
  2. Demonstrate appropriate use of research methods for performing evaluation and research in the fields of hospitality, recreation, recreation therapy, and tourism.
  3. Collect and analyze data using Excel or other statistical program.
  4. Develop written and oral reports to present data.
  5. Analyze current market data to make data-driven management decisions.
