REC 215 - Special Events in Recreation


Units: 3
Conceptualizing, analysis, and project planning of small to large-scale events. Best practices and trends in special events, such as sports, festivals and fundraisers. Developing a plan and analyzing the experience of volunteering at a special event.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100.
Equivalent Quarter Course: REC 4501.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1.  Describe the key aspects of planning and management of special events, festivals, recreation/sport activities and fundraisers.
  2. Identify best practices and trends in event management. 
  3. Develop an event management plan.
  4.  Analyze aspects of the project planning process based on participation in planning and/or implementation of a recreation or sport event.
