MUS 412 - Contrapuntal Techniques


Units: 3
Contrapuntal procedures from the 16th through the 20th centuries with an emphasis on the music of J.S. Bach and its influence on later composers.

Prerequisites: MUS 312.
Equivalent Quarter Course: MUS 3062.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Fall Alternate Years


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Develop skills in the composition and analysis of 18th century polyphonic music.
  2. Mastery and understanding of the principles of counterpoint.
  3. Develop historical and technical insight into the structure of Baroque music.
  4. Demonstrate skill in combining musical lines.
