ENGL 205 - Beginning Workshop in Fiction


Units: 4 ; Breadth Area: GE-C1
Introduction to fiction writing with emphasis on the short story. May be repeated once for credit for a maximum of 8 units. 

Equivalent Quarter Course: ENGL 2070.
Repeatability: May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 8 units.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Gain experience in the practice of fiction writing;
  2. Become familiar with the formal aspects of fiction;
  3. Cultivate a critical vocabulary for the use in workshop;
  4. Constructively reinforce revising skills, not only of language but also of ideas;
  5. Ability to situate oneself within a particular school or schools of fiction.
