EPSY 635 - Pre-Practicum Microcounseling Skills in Relational Practice


Units: 2
Develop and practice the basic skills of systemic-relational counseling, especially the skills of listening.  Use of brief videotaped counseling sessions (“microcounseling”).  Students role-play to observe, analyze, and evaluate techniques of counseling. 

Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an awareness of diversity and social justice issues, as well as demonstrate competence in working with diverse clinical populations. 
  2. Knowledgeable of and successfully apply appropriate legal and ethical guidelines necessary for the competent practice of marriage and family therapy. 
  3. Conceptualize cases, articulate systemically-oriented treatment plans, and demonstrate overall competence in clinical practice and recovery-orientated care.
