GEOG 499 - Senior Seminar in Geography


Units: 3
Advanced research, analysis and evaluation of major geographic issues. Synthesis and application of knowledge and understanding of the student’s major area of interest in the form of a capstone paper on a relevant contemporary issue.

Strongly Recommended Preparation: GEOG 310.
Prerequisites: Senior standing, and declared Geography or Environmental Studies major.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of and the ability to use concepts and theories related to the field of geography;
  2. Demonstrate their ability to write an analytical or argumentative paper in college-level academic English using an approved style guide;
  3. Demonstrate their ability to make professional-quality presentations on assigned topics and /or on their individual research;
  4. Demonstrate their ability to prepare for and actively contribute to group discussions on identified readings, exhibiting academic maturity and rigor in peer interactions.
