GEOG 425 - Advanced GIS


Units: 3
Advanced tools, data management, and functions in geographic information systems (GIS) on the mapping, monitoring, analysis, management and conservation of environmental resources; topics in spatial data analysis, 3D-visualization, and modeling of geographic information science (GISci). Lecture Units: 2; Lab Units: 1.

Prerequisites: GEOG 225.
Equivalent Quarter Course: GEOG 4605.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).
Course Typically Offered: Spring ONLY


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an advanced working knowledge of the ArcGIS software framework and how GIS technology is implemented.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in using advanced GIS tools to create maps for multilayered spatial analysis.
  3. Execute a research-based analysis using mainstream GIS technology to address a scientific topic of societal concern.
  4. Develop the skill set required to effectively explain and defend one’s GIS project at a professional conference.
