ENGL 463 - Children’s Literature after 1900

Children’s and young adult literature from the 20th and 21st centuries of different genres and themes, reflecting social, cultural, and ethnic diversity.  

Strongly Recommended Preparation: ENGL 204.
Equivalent Quarter Course: ENGL 4741.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate familiarity with themes and structures of culturally and ethnically works in children’s and young adult literature from after 1900;
  2. identify and describe the characteristics of different genres, literary forms and themes within diverse children’s and young adult literature;
  3. locate and summarize secondary texts related to diverse ethnic works of children’s literature after 1900;
  4. articulate in cogent writing meaningful connections between specific literary texts written for ethnically diverse children and young adults, their themes, their historical contexts, and contemporary readers;
  5. engage in collaborative assignments, such as discussion, oral presentation, and peer editing.
