HIST 201 - Introduction to History Units: 4 Introduction to History as a field of study; evaluate competing historical truths, conduct evidence analysis, develop viable research questions, understand different career paths in history. Serves as an introduction to the major, with advising and creation of a digital portfolio.
Equivalent Quarter Course: HIST 2010. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice). Course Typically Offered: Fall & Spring
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Identify historical arguments and critical examine historical “objectivity”;
- Find and analyze primary and secondary historical sources;
- Learn how and discern when to employ citation methods and learn the proper format;
- Develop compelling research questions;
- Understand the rudiments of historiography;
- Present historical findings through oral and written methods;
- Distinguish methods of applied history inside and outside of the classroom;
- Plan for completion of the major, minor or certificate in history, including necessary internships and/or research projects and begin building a portfolio.
