COMM 471 - Strategic Communication and Difference


Units: 4
Discussion of current theories, research, and issues to increase understanding and insight into developing effective strategic communication approaches and messages to reach and engage diverse audiences. Topics may include ethnicity, social economic status, gender, age, sexual identity, religion, and ability.

Equivalent Quarter Course: COMM 4500 or COMM 4515.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
 

  1. Understand how diversity plays an important role in strategic communication;
  2. Understand theories, research and issues of diversity in advertising, public relations and marketing communication;
  3. Understand how individual characteristics influence the developing, sending, receiving, processing, and responding of strategic communication messages;
  4. Apply theories and concepts to develop approaches and messages to reach and engage diverse audiences.
