MGMT 402 - Managing the Global Workplace


Units: 3
Challenges faced by HR managers in managing a global workforce, and solutions in the context of management theory and practice. The course focuses on international human resource & cross cultural management. 

Prerequisites: MGMT 312 and junior, senior or post-baccalaureate standing.
Equivalent Quarter Course: MGMT 4675.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Course Typically Offered: Variable Intermittently


Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the HR issues facing global HR managers today in HR planning, recruitment, selection, compensation, performance management, training and expatriate assignments.
  2. Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural basis of employee behavior in the global workplace.
  3. Apply an understanding of cross cultural management concepts to create effective international teams and negotiate effectively across cultures.
  4. Apply an understanding of cross cultural management concepts in designing HR systems for different global regions.
  5. Conduct quality research on HR systems to design appropriate HR systems for different countries and cultures and present it to an informed audience
