ECON 335 - Introduction to Urban Economics Units: 3 Economic analysis of the forces determining an urban area’s income, employment, land use, industrial structure, and public sector. Applications to issues such as housing, central city-suburban relationships, transportation, and neighborhood economic development.
Prerequisites: ECON 200. Equivalent Quarter Course: ECON 3500. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall Alternate Years
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Use microeconomic theory to explain the location and structure of cities;
- Assess the impact of city ordinances (such as zoning or growth controls) on urban economic development;
- Explain how land prices and the quantity and price of housing are determined in an urban area;
- Explain the economic underpinnings of selected urban issues (such as poverty, transportation, education, employment).
