MGMT 652 - Service Operations Management


Units: 3
Effective and efficient management of service operations. Topics include service systems design, process analysis and improvement, facility location and layout, continuous quality improvement, managing queues, and scheduling.

Prerequisites: MGMT 608.
Equivalent Quarter Course: MGMT 6141.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Explain the role played by service industry in an economy.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the nature of service operations and current approaches used in the industry.
  3. Build critical skills in managing service operations in an organization, specifically in appraising and improving a service process, evaluating service capacity, and managing service encounters and waiting times.
  4. Develop extensive skills in applying quantitative and qualitative methods and tools to analyze service operations.
