TED 473 - Early Childhood Education: Inclusive Practices


Units: 3
Developmentally appropriate practice for children from birth to five years of age with disabilities, developmental delays, and those “at-risk”. Early intervention, preschool programs, and other service delivery approaches examined from a culturally sensitive, family-focused perspective. Field component.

Equivalent Quarter Course: TED 4074.
Possible Instructional Methods: Hybrid Only.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Identify similarities and differences among typical and atypical children from birth to five years of age from diverse cultural backgrounds.
  2. Research literature focusing on equity and diversity in early childhood education programs and services for children from birth to five years of age with disabilities, developmental delays, and those considered “at-risk” for delays.
  3. Understand legal and ethical issues, laws and strategies for working with families to create and implement developmentally appropriate practices for programs including IESO, IEP and inter-agency agreements.
  4. Apply knowledge of socio-cultural and linguistic factors that influence perceptions about disability, quality of life issues, and access to and use of appropriate services.
