COMM 224 - Argumentation and Advocacy


Units: 4
Students identify, analyze, and apply theories of argumentation to controversies in the personal, professional, and public spheres, emphasizing traditional and critical/cultural approaches to evidence and reasoning.

Equivalent Quarter Course: COMM 3204.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Evaluate and refute oppositional arguments;
  2. Utilize examples from research on current events or topics during dialectical exchanges;
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the role argumentation plays in contemporary forms of advocacy.
