OTL 680 - Building the Online Environment


Units: 3
Design and implement an online teaching site, including assignments, interactivity, contact protocols, syllabus, course materials, and research and development resources for student use. Presentation of materials in various formats.

Prerequisites: All of: OTL 601, OTL 602, OTL 603, OTL 604.
Co-requisites: OTL 606.
Equivalent Quarter Course: OTL 6780.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely Online.
Grading: A-F grading only.
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Develop and Complete the audience, instructor, content, and technology analyses.
  2. Develop the online course infrastructure that includes:  Choice of delivery mechanism, Communication features, Student outcomes (goals and objectives of course), Student support materials, Features to be used in delivery mechanism.
  3. Create the course storyboard or outline entire course.
  4. Design and develop one learning unit that includes · Overview and Objectives · Lectures · Assignments · Interactivity · Assessment · Group work · Media.
  5. Develop the online course syllabus.
  6. Create the implementation and marketing plan Small Group Outcomes: Recognize and evaluate design, usability, readability and accessibility principles of an online site.
  7. Perform an expert review and evaluation of another’s course.
