REC 362 - Recreation Therapy Documentation & Assessment Units: 3 Current recreation therapy assessment instruments, inter-professional inventories and questionnaires, criteria for selection and/or development of assessment, and documentation formats.
Strongly Recommended Preparation: HOS 100 and REC 100. Equivalent Quarter Course: REC 4600. Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid. Grading: A-F grading only. Course Typically Offered: Fall ONLY
Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to: - Analyze current recreation therapy assessment instruments.
- Apply interprofessional inventories and questionnaires (e.g., standardized rating systems, developmental screening tests).
- Examine secondary sources of assessment data (e.g., records or charts, staff, support system).
- Identify criteria for selection and/or development of assessment (e.g., reliability, validity, practicality, availability).
- Examine implementation of assessment (e.g., behavioral observations, interviews, performance testing).
- Identify sensory assessment (e.g., vision, hearing, tactile).
- Identify cognitive assessment (e.g., memory, problem solving, attention span, orientation, safety awareness).
- Identify social assessment (e.g., communication/interactive skills, relationships).
- Identify physical assessment (e.g., fitness, motor skills function).
- Identify affective assessment (e.g., attitude toward self, expression) .
- Identify leisure assessment (e.g., barriers, interests, values, patterns/skills, knowledge).
- Identify functional skills assessment (e.g., access in the community, using social media, using transportation).
- Examine interpretation and documentation of assessment results
- Choose individualized intervention plan (e.g., identification of problems, strategies for treatment, modalities).
- Identify measurable goals and behavioral objectives.
- Examine progress/functional status (e.g., SOAP, FIM, DARP)
- Develop modification of intervention plan (e.g., reevaluation).
