POSC 337 - African American Politics


Units: 3
The role of African Americans in state and national politics; political history of African Americans in American politics, public policy issues concerning African Americans, successes and failures of African American empowerment strategies, and electoral impact of African American votes.

Equivalent Quarter Course: POSC 3335.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Students will learn the basic ideologies of African American empowerment.
  2. Students will learn about intersections of race and gender (among other intersections), and how this influences African American politics.
  3. Students will come to understand the electoral history of African Americans in the United States.
