POSC 315 - Bay Area Politics


Units: 3 ; Breadth Area: GE-UD-D
Problems and issues relevant to local and regional governments in the Bay Area. Topics and issues may include crime, education, the environment, the technology sector, housing, or inequality.

Prerequisites: Completion of GE Areas A1, A2, A3, and B4 with grade C- (CR) or better.
Equivalent Quarter Course: POSC 3130.
Possible Instructional Methods: Entirely On-ground, or Entirely Online, or Hybrid.
Grading: A-F or CR/NC (student choice).

Student Learning Outcomes - Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:
  1. Describe the structure and operation of urban government institutions, the challenges they face, and the key political actors within those governmental units.
  2. Assess the impact of the main contemporary policy issues and challenges that are facing urban areas.
  3. Analyze the factors that influence the decision making processes of state and local governments as they seek to deal with these problems.
